Jeremy Reed Seals The Deal With Big Day

Jeremy Reed has just about sewn up a spot on the opening day roster as the fourth outfielder. Today against the Braves, Reed had a banner day going 4-5 with two runs scored and four ribbies. Ironically, he wasn't even supposed to play today as Carlos Beltran was slated to start but was scratched minutes before the game and replaced by Reed. Jeremy Reed is now batting .426 and for those who think that spring training stats don't matter, they have been mattering to Omar and Manuel since the exhibition schedule began. Reed's main competition going into the spring included Marlon Anderson and Cory Sullivan. Sullivan is batting .222 and Anderson stands at .265. Adam Rubin wrote this morning that Sullivan has a minor league option and could start the season in AAA, or that he may even get traded. Reed has impressed me offensively this spring, mostly because he was labeled as soft at the plate. Maybe the change of scenery was just what he needed.
