Jerry Remy plans to be in the broadcast booth for many more years. NESN’s Red Sox color commentator had a relapse of lung cancer during the offseason but is feeling great now. On Wendesday, the RemDawg discussed his recent cancer treatment and future outlook with Tom Caron on NESN’s pregame show, Red Sox GameDayLIVE. “I am not concerned about it,” Jerry said about his relapse, which was recently discovered and treated. “I am upbeat and positive.” Jerry, who took a leave of absence to recover from the effects of lung cancer surgery in 2009, began broadcasting Red Sox games for NESN in 1988 and is an institution in New England and throughout Red Sox Nation. His ability to connect with fans is legendary, and many view him as part of the family, synonymous with NESN and Red Sox baseball. “Jerry’s willingness and courage to speak openly to fans, addressing an illness so many people face, is inspiring, and another reason why he’s so beloved in New England and to Red Sox Nation,” said Sean McGrail, NESN’s president and CEO. Jerry appreciates all of the love and support fans have given him during his NESN career and expects to be calling Red Sox games for a long time. Entering his 26th season in the booth, Jerry recently signed a long-term contract extension with NESN. Watch the video above to hear Jerry tell his story.
