Joe Torre is the man! Mr. T wants to return to Yankee Stadium one last time at the closing ceremonies on November 9th. Joe and his wife Ali are hosting a reunion of the 1998 World Series championship team at their Safe at Home Foundation dinner Nov. 7. That is only two days ahead of the day the Yankees scheduled their official closing ceremonies. So, he should be around at the time..and we can only hope that he is invited. You never know what might happen. I think every Yankee fan is aware of how Torre was treated by the Yankees organization, and how left on bad terms. I think you can expect one of the loudest chants you ever heard in Yankee Stadium for the guy. (Joe Torre! Joe Torre! …I can hear it now) Fans haven't forgotten what he did for NY. He delivered every year..not missing the postseason once as manager of the Yanks. Nobody else can say that they delivered every year like he did. With all the pressure under Steinbrenner…Torre still delivered and he never complained. The one year that he leaves for L.A., the Yankees miss the postseason. It makes you laugh. "I would like to go," says Torre, who plans to get a couple of seats from the stadium. "It would be nice to say good-bye. "I came from a very special place. It's tough to compare Yankee Stadium to anything else. Hopefully, we can create some new memories here." "Managing the last two years in New York wasn't fun," Torre says. "I could feel the effects it had on me and my family. I was relieved to get away. "When you're at a place for 12 years, you wonder if it can be fun again." Torre paused, his face slowly breaking into a grin: "Now, I don't have to wonder anymore." "There were certain people there that felt that if they motivated me with money," says Torre, a hint of resentment in his voice and face, "it would make me manage better. I didn't understand that concept. That was an insult. "In some circles, it was taken that $5 million isn't enough. That wasn't the case." "There's a special pride for what we've done," Torre says, "but not because we got in and the Yankees didn't. It's not, 'I told you so.' "He was the same Joe everyday, regardless of how tough the storm was," Cashman said Monday. "We went 13 straight years (making the playoffs), and after a while, people just expect it. "I'll always think of '96 when we won our first one. I reminisce about 9/11. We didn't win the World Series that year (2001), but those games at Yankee Stadium were so memorable.
