Found July 06, 2013 on Redlegs Review:
On Saturday, Major League Baseball announced the rosters for the 2013 All-Star Game to be played July 16 at Citi Field. As fate would have it, at least three Reds players made the cut. The trio of Joey Votto, Brandon Phillips, and Aroldis Chapman are heading to New York after they were selected to play for the National League squad. Votto and Phillips have both been named starters after winning the fan vote at their respective positions. This marks the fourth career All-Star selection for Votto and the second straight season he has earned the start at first base via fan vote. The Canadian native leads the majors in on-base percentage (.433) and is hitting .323 with 15 home runs and 40 RBI. For Phillips, this All-Star selection is the third in his big league career, and his first career start. The 32-year-old is currently hitting .265 with 12 home runs and 63 RBI. Phillips is on pace to surpass his single-season career-high RBI total of 98 set in 2009. Chapman will be mak...

The Canadian native put that power on full display Friday night when he belted a long home run to center field during the bottom of the sixth. The blast came off former Red Aaaron Harang and traveled an estimated 433 feet before landing miracuosly inside the batter's eye at Great...

Trio of Reds named 2013 NL All-Stars

Major League Baseball announced the rosters for the 2013 All-Star game Saturday and three Reds have been selected to represent Cincinnati. First baseman Joey Votto will make his fourth career All-Star Game appearance, becoming the first Red to be named a starter since Hall of Fame shortstop Barry Larkin in 1999-2000. He currently leads the NL in OBP (.433) and walks (60), ranks third...

Reds’ Devin Mesoraco sidelined with back spasms

Cincinnati Reds catcher Devin Mesoraco has missed the past two contests due to back spasms. Prior to yesterday’s game, the backstop told Mark Sheldon of MLB.com that he sustained the injury during Friday’s contest while swinging the bat. "I did it on a swing the night before. It was real, real tight," Mesoraco said on Sunday. "I think it's just a day...

Cincinnati Reds left fielder Xavier Paul is out of the lineup again on Sunday after missing Saturday's game following treatment on his injured right shoulder. Video: Reds fans get engaged during game

Your browser does not support iframes. The Reds may have wound up on the losing side of things Sunday afternoon to the Mariners. However, the day was a happy occasion for at least two Reds fans. Seen here is a gentleman getting down on one knee and popping the question to his girlfriend in between innings at Great American Ball Park. As you can see, she says yes, and the...

Homer Bailey and the First Pitch Fastball

Homer Bailey’s no-hitter on Tuesday marked the fourth time in the history of the National League that a pitcher has thrown 2 straight no-hitters – not two consecutive starts, but the last two no-hitters that the National League has seen. He joins Warren Spahn, Sandy Koufax and Johnny Vander Meer (who actually did throw no-hitters in back to back starts in 1938). Surprisingly...

Video: Carlos Gomez robs Joey Votto of home run to end game

Joey Votto couldn't believe it at first. And neither could anyone else in Miller Park when Brewers center fielder Carlos Gomez robbed a potential go-ahead home run to seal a 4-3 victory Monday night for Milwaukee. The jaw-dropping play came with two outs, and one runner aboard, in the top of the ninth when Brewers closer Francisco Rodriguez allowed a deep drive off the...

Reds-Mariners preview

The Cincinnati Reds' lowest winning percentage against any opponent is versus the Seattle Mariners as they get ready to welcome back a familiar face to Great American Ball Park.
