Found April 30, 2013 on Mets360.com:
Full disclosure: your intrepid columnist did not watch or follow all of last night’s (4/29) Mets game. He took an hour off to watch Revolution. That was probably the best move of the night, seeing as the game was near-unwatchable — fifteen innings worth of unwatchable. The Mets took a 2-1 lead into the ninth on the strength of a John Buck 4th inning home run. Bobby Parnell pitched pretty well to try and protect it, but got no help from his defense – Collin Cowgill, in particular – and the inning ended with the game tied. It was then that ennui set in. Baseball teams in general look pretty bad when they’re not hitting. Couple that with shaky starting pitching four days out of five and an admittedly inept bullpen and you have…well…the Mets. Since Jordany Valdespin’s walk-off slam vs. the Dodgers last Wednesday, the Mets have tallied five, three, eight and three hits respectively over the next four games. Unsurprisingly, they lost all four and the space between each hit w...

Time To Release The Kraken: Send Ike Davis To The Minors

If Ike Davis drops any lower in the batting order, he’ll find himself in Triple-A Las Vegas anyway, so why not just send him there now? After another three-strikeout performance, Davis now has 29 Ks in 82 at-bats and is on pace for over 195 strikeouts. Back on April 17, I stated that Davis has shown himself to be nothing more than a platoon player at best throughout his major league...

The Case For Ike Davis

With Ike Davis having another dreadful month of April, many fans have lost hope in the New York Mets first baseman. Some have even gone as far as saying he should be sent down to the minors. Despite Davis’ poor start, I believe he should not be sent down and he should continue to be the everyday first baseman for three reasons. My first reason is Ike Davis’ ceiling is far greater...

Ike Davis highlights Mets struggles against relief pitchers

It’s always tough to lose but the way the Mets have been defeated the past two nights approaches soul-crushing territory. Two nights ago it was lose the lead in the ninth, take the lead in the 15th and lose the game in the bottom of the inning. Last night it was take a shutout into the ninth and then give up two runs to lose the game. To the woeful Marlins, who were playing...

Photo: Mets fan creates clever John Buck jersey

New York Mets catcher John Buck is making a great impression with his new club this season. Buck, who spent last year with the Miami Marlins, is currently leading the National League in runs batted in (27) and ranks second in home runs (9). Naturally, his offensive emergence has sparked many fans around the Big Apple to seek out places where they can buy a Mets jersey with his...

Ike Davis: This Isn’t What We Meant By Pure Chaos

It was just three measly years ago that a budding young power-hitting first basemen looked nervously into the camera as Chris Carlin interviewed him live before millions of viewers late one Spring Training evening in a local pub. As they concluded, Carlin refers to him as “The future of the New York Mets, Ike Davis.”, which gets a rousing cheer from the Mets fans in the restaurant...

Josh Satin: Brender Interview, Platooning Ike Davis, Time To Make The Call

A couple of weeks ago I profiled Josh Satin and called for him to be promoted and at the very least platoon have him with Ike Davis at first base as he continues to struggle against left-handed pitching. Rob Brender, a contributor to Mets Minor League Blog, got a chance to ask Satin a few questions last night and spoke to him about his early-season success and what he needs to work...

It is time to send Ike Davis to Binghamton

The more things change, the more they stay the same. Anyone looking for proof of this cliché needs to look no further than Ike Davis’ approach when he gets to two strikes. Last August I wrote that the Mets should give Davis the take sign when he gets to 0-2 and only allow him to swing at fastballs when the count was 1-2 because all he was doing in those counts was chasing breaking...

New York Mets Should Send Ike Davis to the Minors

The New York Mets have hit quite the rough patch. Following a strong start to the season, they ended the month of April with a 10-15 record, thanks to their current six-game losing streak. Unlike the start of the month, the offense has disappeared, as they’re hitting .189 as a team over their last 12 games. One of the main culprits for the struggling offense is Ike Davis. The Mets...

Mets Fans Turning Jason Bay Jerseys Into John Buck Jerseys

New York Mets: Top Five Early Season Frustrations

Baseball is a very long season; there will be many ups and downs throughout any given 162-game schedule. Now that we’re 23 games into the New York Mets’ regular season, we have seen a few things happen that we’d hope wouldn’t be the case. Can they turn around soon? Of course they can. Just because Ike Davis is struggling at the plate and the bullpen once again has one of...

3 Up & 3 Down: Frustrated By The Phillies Edition

In last weekend’s edition of 3&3, I cautioned to watch out for a Dodger’s team that was struggling. That warning should have been extended to this weekend’s series with the Phillies as well. Against two teams that have been struggling, our Mets finished 1-5. Looks like our team is fast becoming a cure to another team’s slump. 3 UP Kyle’s Complete Game: We don’t like...
