Aside from Darren Rovell vs everyone from Jaime Edmondson to Jimmy Traina to Evan Longoria, the biggest feud to emerge from Super Bowl week in Indianapolis saw John Dennis of WEEI in Boston squaring off with Ryen Russillo of the Scott Van Pelt Show on ESPN Radio once again. The battle between Dennis and Russillo goes all the way back to 2005 when Russillo worked in Boston and allegedly made a play on Dennis' daughter. That led to this infamous, profanity laced voicemail that found its way onto the interwebs and led to Russillo being on the short end of some sort of loser leaves town match. Well, the two met up in Indianapolis at the Super Bowl and almost threw down according to The Big Lead and Deadspin. Deadspin had a first person account that makes it seem like Russillo confronted Dennis in an alley outside one of the hotels and words were exchanged before both men walked away. The best part about this feud though is that both men took to Twitter in the aftermath, still w...

Carlos Pena Among Rays' Quiet Offensive Upgrades As Tampa Bay May Pose Even Stronger Threat in AL East

The silent style suits the Rays perfectly. Since 2008, Tampa Bay has lurked in the bushes, quietly leapfrogging rivals for elusive playoff spots -- see the 2011 Red Sox -- or division titles -- see the 2010 Yankees. Staying true to form, the Rays' offseason has been silently productive. By signing first baseman Carlos Pena, the team regained one of the key cogs from its run to...

Four teams still interested in Damon

Even after hitting 16 homers and batting .261 last season, Johnny Damon is still on the free agent market. He actually hasn’t even had any serious offers yet which doesn’t surprise me. It’s probably due to his asking price, it’s always too high. Lucky for him though a tweet from ESPN’s Jim Bowden said that there are still four teams interested in...

Player Profile #79: B.J. Upton | OF | TB

Seeing as George is such a fan of B.J. Upton, I almost let him write this player profile. I’m not a huge fan of Upton, but I can be objective…or at least I can try. Just like Chris Young, who we ranked at 105, Upton is a low-average hitter with an elite power/speed combination. Upton has more speed than Young, stealing 40-plus bases each year from 2008-2010, and finally...

Player Profile #74: Ben Zobrist | 2B/OF | TB

Remember that Rays-Twins doubleheader on April 28 when Ben Zobrist erupted for 10 RBI, going 7-for-10 with two homers, five runs scored and a stolen base? I do. If you remove that one day from Zobrist’s 2011 stat line, he finishes the season with a line of 95 runs, 18 homers, 81 RBI, 18 steals and a .261 average. Those stats would have ranked 85th last season instead of 40th...

Rays' Joyce gets young ball players into the swing

Matt Joyce returns to the North Brandon Little League where his camp offers kids tips, a chance to talk to a big leaguer, and $10,000 for the organization to do some field renovations.

Inbox: Can Zobrist be an All-Star?

Would Ben Zobrist be an All-Star if he played only one position? Rays beat reporter Bill Chastain answers that question and more in the latest edition of his Inbox.

Zobrist a jack-of-all-trades player for Rays

Ben Zobrist is one of the last names you'll find in the Baseball Encyclopedia, but he's near, or at the top, in several highly subjective categories: best all-around defender and most versatile player in the game.

Rays' organization preview, Top 20 Prospects

Pitching prospects like the Rays' Matt Moore do not come around very often, and the young left-hander deserves credit for harnessing his natural ability and developing into a Major Leaguer.
