John Lackey has been solid and sometimes spectacular this season. His start Wednesday fell into the former category.
Despite giving up three home runs to the Phillies, Lackey limited the rest of the damage and still gave the Red Sox a chance to win the game. Isn’t that all a starting pitcher really needs to do, on some level?
NESN Nation’s Dan Duquette reacts to Lackey’s start in the above video. Check it out to see what he has to say.

John Lackey wasn’t at his best Wednesday night but he has pitched effectively for the Red Sox this season. Lackey, signed to a five-year, $82.5 million contract prior to the 2010 season, had a rocky start to his Boston tenure. After posting solid peripherals with poor run prevention marks in 2010, he posted a 6.41 ERA in 2011 before undergoing Tommy John surgery. He missed the...
Every year there are Major League Baseball teams that sign a bunch of veteran players to minor league deals and stick them away in Triple-A since there is no room on their current 24-man roster. This year, the Boston Red Sox signed former Baltimore Orioles and Texas Rangers utility player Brandon Snyder to a minor league deal on April 2 and since then, have gotten quality production...
The last time the Boston Red Sox had a pick in the Top 10 was 1993. First pick in that draft was shortstop Alex Rodriguez (you’ve heard of him) by the Seattle Mariners, the easy No.1, even coming out of high school (he turned down playing shortstop and quarterback for the University of Miami). Following Rodriguez came five straight pitchers: two of whom suffered career-shortening...
What better way to honor a fellow player on his birthday than to don wigs resembling his own hair style?
“Thank you, Taiwan, ” former MLB slugger Manny Ramirez said while celebrating with a group of fans and his teammates, reports Focus Taiwan News Channel.

Jackie Bradley Jr. didn’t fare so well in his first taste of the big leagues. However, with the young outfielder’s meteoric rise through the Red Sox’ system, it was only a matter of time before he ended back up with the big club, and it appears that time is Wednesday.
According to Comcast Sports Net’s Maureen Mullen, Bradley will be recalled from Pawtucket on Wednesday, and...
The StealVery few Red Sox players can bridge the generations with their exploits—but Dave Roberts is one of them. He was at that magical moment in time when his singular achievement could make octogenarians and millennials weep together with joy. That stolen base is a touchstone that every Red Sox fan can own forever. The iconic images will never fade. The near pick-offs. The hand...
The Boston Red Sox got one of their own back on Tuesday, as they have activated left-handed reliever Franklin Morales from the 15-day disabled list. Morales, who had been having neck and pectoral issues since the end of spring training will find himself coming out of the bullpen at first.
If he proves that he can hold up to the grind and pitch well he could become an option to get...

With the Astros moving to the American League this season Interleague Play is now throughout the season. The season began with the Angels visiting the Reds. I for one like the idea of Interleague Play throughout the season but understand it isn’t beneficial to all teams. The Red Sox are one of few teams to have just experienced interleague games for the first time during...
Led by two home runs by an emerging Dom Brown, the Phils hits four solo home runs as they hang on to defeat the Red Sox, 4-3.
The Red Sox took the lead in the top of the first as, with a man on third, and with one man out, Dustin Pedroia hits a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Jacoby Ellsbury, who had started the game off with a triple, giving the Red Sox a 1-0 lead. The Phils...

The Red Sox managed only 4 hits off Cliff Lee as the Philadelphia Phillies earned a split of their two-game series at Fenway Park with a 3-1 win. Ryan Dempster was the hard-luck loser; he allowed two runs on six hits and three walks over seven innings while striking out 4.
The Phillies got on the score board early with Michael Young's...
The Boston Red Sox (32-22) will try to earn a split in their four-game series with the Philadelphia Phillies (26-27) tonight, as they have lost two out of the first three. The Sox tried to make a ninth-inning comeback Wednesday, but they fell one run short, as Jonathan Papelbon got his second save in as many nights. Tonight, Franklin Morales gets...
