I think the title pretty much says it all for today’s game: after coming in to replace an injured Jayson Nix, Blue Jays super-sub John Macdonald showed why the bluebirds valued him so much over the years, surprising just about everyone (but not really) with a 2-run walkoff home run in the bottom of the 11th that put the Blue Jays over the Rays 6-4 at the Rogers Centre. It was the veteran Macdonald’s first home run of the season, as well as his first career walk-off home run – and it capped yet another comeback victory for the Jays in thrilling fashion, even reminiscent of the Gregg Zaun walk-off grand slam over the very same Tampa Bay Rays in 2008. Funny how these things have a way of coming around; Macdonald has always been known for his superlative defense, but this season he’s brought his defensive karma to the plate as well, riding an unsustainably high .421 BABIP to a .300 average so far.
