It is being reported tonight that Nate McLouth has been traded to the Braves for 3 players. Outfield Gorkys Hernandez who has been tearing up Double A ball with a .316 BA, LHP Jeff Locke is 1-4 5.52 in single A and RHP Charlie Morton is 7-2 2.51 in Triple A this season.
While two of these players are in the Braves top eight prospects according to Baseball America I personally am sad to see Nate the Great go. He is one heck of a ballplayer and while this move may help the Pirates down the road (I am always suspicious when the Braves trade any pitching away for they never give up or miss on any good pitching) it sure the heck isn't going to help right now. This season has showen a lot of promise and this move is not going to help things this year.
While it is best to make moves to build to win it all in the future, it sure would've been nice to get a good season in Pittsburgh for once before making such a move. I am not super thrilled right now by this move but down the road I may well be. Perhaps it is because I really like Nate McLouth. He impressed me and I think he is one fine ballplayer. I may change my mind in a coupla days once I get past missing Nate.
I wish Nate the best. He is a fine young man and a fine ballplayer and this is one Pirates fan who will miss him till he smashes the ball around the park against our Pirates then I may not hate him but I will be cursing the man who thought up this trade.. LOL. Good luck Nate and lets hope our future prospects turn out well.
