Jose Tabata has joined the team in St. Louis. Pirates Prospects learned late last night that Tabata was heading to St. Louis to Join the team. Tabata has hit for a .297 average with Triple-A Indianapolis since being demoted from Pittsburgh in late July. Mercer, 25, is expecting his first child with his wife Kasey. He is left the club on Sunday morning for paternity leave according to Rob Biertempfel of the Trib. The infielder is hitting .188 on the season, but recently saw more playing time due to Neil Walker’s injury (right pinky dislocation). Update: Michael Manserino of the Post-Gazette said that Mercer won’t go on the DL until after the game, if at all. Mercer could land on the disabled list. He injured his right wrist after getting hit by a pitch in Saturday night’s game.
