The ending of last season was an odd one. Everyone knew that there was a pretty good chance that it was Jorge Posada‘s last, but both he and the Yankees left it kind of open ended whether he would return for another year or not and Jorge certainly made it known that he though he was capable of another year.
So there was never really a goodbye. However, Yankees fans will get their chance on Friday as Jorge Posada is expected to throw out the first pitch of the game, according to Marc Carig of the Newark Star-Ledger.
“I think he’s going to be all kind of emotional, knowing Jorge,” Mariano Rivera told Carig. “At the same time, he’ll be happy. We’ll be happy. I will be happy to see him. I haven’t seen him since his retirement. It will be nice to see him. I think the fans will be happy to see him again. We have guys that were with him for so many years, I’ll be happy.”
Everyone keeps saying that he’ll throw out the first pitch, but being that Posada was a catcher it seems appropriate to have somebody like Rivera toss the first pitch to him. Either way, it’ll be a great time as I expect the outpouring of emotion from fans to be extraordinary. A nice move by the Yankees.
