Jose Canseco, at 48, and known for going on some undecipherable twitter rants, has left the Worcester Tornadoes of the Can-Am League and signed with the independent Rio Grande WhiteWings of the North American League. The Valley Morning Star reports that Canseco, still a member of the Tornadoes, will make his debut in the coming days. Canseco played 20 games for the Tornadoes putting up numbers you would expect for a 48-year-old: 194 BA, one home run, seven RBI and 24 strikeouts in 84 at-bats. But the fact that his former club had no idea that he left the team leaves a bad taste in everyone’s mouth. The Worcester Telegram spoke with Tornadoes’ owner Rich Breighner who says he was shocked when he heard the news; “It was shocking to me,” said Breighner, who learned of Canseco signing with Rio Grande from Worcester general manger Jorg Bassiacos via text message at 9 last night, several hours after news of his arrival in Rio Grande was the talk of social media.
