I love finding players on the waiver wire and watching their ownership percentage grow. It’s one of the best parts about fantasy sports for me. To see a guy go from .05% owned when you pick him up to 100% is a feeling comparable to when my dog sat for the first time on command.

My favorites are the players who don’t even have bio pictures when you first pick them up. Michael Fiers was like that and now he should be the NL ROY.

Well, Josh Rutledge has played 38 games in the big leagues and over that time has done nothing but produce. To the tune of a .344 batting average, 19 R, 7 HR, 26 RBI and 5 SB. Project that out for 162 and you have the best shortstop in the game. The problem is, right as Rutledge was about to get to the 100% owned level, he got hurt. A pesky quad injury that put him on the shelf for a few games, then flared up when he tried to come back.

Now Rutledge has been relegated to pinch hitting duties – which he’s been amazing at, obviously – hurting his fantasy value and his chances at getting a bio picture.

Last night he pinch hit again for the 7th game in a row. Over those 7 games he’s gone 4-7 with a home run, 4 RBI and the most important stat of all – 1 stolen base. Why is the one stolen base the most important? Because it shows that he’s finally feeling good enough to max out his quad.

The Rockies have plans for Rutledge. When Tulowitzi returns they are all set to move Rutledge to second and have already had him working out over there.

Right now, Rutledge is owned in about 40% of leagues. Once news comes out that he will be inserted back in the everyday lineup, that number should jump exponentially. Be a trendsetter. Go out and grab him now while you still can. If you need this last week to make the playoffs I can understand waiting. But if you have a spot locked up, or you’re in a keeper league and you’re already eliminated, pick him up. You won’t regret it.
