Sacramento River Cats 1 @ Iowa Cubs 2
So, there's a pretty cool story here. Josh Vitters came back, and played 3B (Olt played DH). He hit a home run in the bottom of the 4th; then, in the 5th, Olt called, and hit a home run of his own. Vitters ended up going 1-2 with that HR, a walk, and a strikeout; Olt had just the HR and the K.
Justin Grimm had the start and did…OK. 5.1 innings and a single run allowed, but he walked and gave up 4 hits each. He did fan 6. Marcos Mateo pitched 1.2 scoreless, Zach Rosscup (newly promoted) had a dicey 2 outs (hit allowed, 2 walks allowed), and 2 strikeouts. 1.1 innings of scoreless ball for Brian Schlitter, and his 16th save.
Montgomery Biscuits 2 @ Tennessee Smokies 3
Arismendy Alcantara played SS and tripled once. He committed his 28th error. Javier Baez played DH and singled and homered. He didn't commit an error, either! He also struck out twice. Justin Bour doubled, as did Taylor Davis.
Matt Loosen pitched 2 scoreless innings, but the...

Jen Ho-Tseng Officially Signs
The Cubs made things officially official with Jen-Ho Tseng on Monday, in a move that was originally reported three weeks ago. The team is a friend of Taiwan, having now employed seven Taiwanese players in their history, a figure that is second only to the Indians.* Tseng will receive a $1.625 million bonus as well as college tuition and some sort...
Programming note: I'm taking tomorrow and Friday off to go to GenCon. dmick has kindly offered to step in on those days. There should be no interruption in programming.

Fresno Grizzlies 4 @ Iowa Cubs 1
Mike Olt went 0-3.
Yoanner Negrin got the start and was pretty decent. He allowed 3 runs in 6 innings, but only 1 run was earned. In any case, he allowed 5 hits and a walk and struck out 7. Marcus Hatley and Zach Rosscup each went one perfect inning (Hatley fanned 2, Rosscup all 3 he faced), and Alberto Cabrera allowed a run in his inning of work...

The Chicago Cubs entered Sunday’s game looking to sweep the Cardinals in St. Louis, after winning two total games in their last three series combined. The series began on Friday, which the Cubs won 3-0. It was the first time the Cubs shutout the Cardinals in St. Louis since June 23, 1997, when Jeremi Gonzalez threw a complete game shutout for the Cubs. Saturday night also resulted...
I’ve received more emails asking about Kyle Hendricks than any other prospect in recent weeks. Everyone seems to be curious about the Cubs’ right-handed pitching prospect who posted a 1.85 ERA in 21 Double-A starts. Due to popular demand, he leads off this edition of the Prospect Stock Watch. Kyle Hendricks, RHP, Chicago Cubs: The […]

Around the two year anniversary of former Chicago Cubs’ general manager Jim Hendry’s firing on August 19, 2011, we will write a brief retrospective on his tenure with the Cubs and his continued imprint on the organization. As we will document, while Hendry made some solid free agent signings and masterful trades, his overall drafting record and performance as a trade-deadline...

The Cubs minor league affiliates were a perfect 7-0 Monday night and 2013 International prospect Jefferson Mejia made his professional debut in the DSL. There was plenty of news off the field on Monday. Eric Jokisch and Kris Bryant earned MiLB honors, Bryant was promoted to Daytona along with Kane County 1B Dan Vogelbach, and the Cubs announced the signing of 18-year-old RHP Jen-Ho Tseng,
The Reds have had a great season, and all they have to show for it is looking up at two teams above them in the standings. At least they have a relatively solid grip on that last wild card spot, though that (thankfully) isn't as great of a position as a team would like. Joey Votto is having another MVP-worthy year but will likely be ignored in the voting if the Reds don't...

So that’s good, right? In fact, when I looked at the error “leaderboards,” the Chicago Cubs weren’t even in the top 10 in errors. They are actually tied with the Philadelphia...
