It appears that the Tigers and Justin Upton have avoided a serious early season setback with their starting left fielder. Butch Dill-USA TODAY Sports

Justin Upton left the Detroit Tigers’ opener against the Chicago White Sox after injuring his left knee in the field, but he says it’s nothing serious.

Upton hurt himself landing while making a catch in the bottom of the sixth inning on Tuesday. He ended up being removed for a pinch hitter in the top of the 7th.

Upton has been termed day-to-day with a knee contusion, but he said that the injury is nothing serious.

Upton was 1-for-3 with a run scored and strikeout prior to leaving the game.
