The Cardinals have won eight games (out of 23) since July 25. Joe Kelly has won three and started another Cardinals victory in that streak. Yadier Molina has caught two games since coming of the disabled after suffering a right knee sprain. The Cardinals have won both. You may draw your own conclusions. Kelly who has given up one or no runs in three of those four starts blanked the Chicago Cubs on four hits for six innings. Molina who had been nothing for 13 hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning that stretched out the Cardinals’ advantage. Jon Jay scored an unusual run in the fifth when he dashed home on an infield fly to short left field. And the Cardinals shut out for the first 12 innings of this series did the blanking today in a 4-0 win. The shutout was the sixth in the last seven Cubs home games with the Cubs losing five of those games. Kelly (4-3) is fast becoming the Cardinals’ stopper. In all four of his recent starts the Cardinals had lost the previous day. Rookie ...

Holliday believes he can help carry Cards down the stretch

ST. LOUIS -- When ranking the Cardinals' MVP candidates at the three-quarter mark of the season, you start -- and finish -- with Yadier Molina. But as obvious as Molina's value is to the Cardinals, the candidates for runner-up MVP aren't so easy to distinguish. Where, oh where, have the Cardinals' deep balls gone?

ST. LOUIS -- Maybe it's the weather. Maybe it's the construction of Ballpark Village. Maybe it's the players. Or, likely, it's all of the above. Whatever the reasons, this is certain: The Cardinals aren't hitting as many homers this season, most noticeably at home. The numbers, please: The Cardinals hit 159 homers in 2012, the 17th most in the majors. They...

The St. Louis Cardinals came away from Chicago with two victories in three games over the Chicago Cubs as the team now moves on to Milwaukee and another winnable series. The Chicago series marked the debut of second baseman Kolten Wong, who finished without a hit in two starts. But despite the lack of success at the plate in his debut, Wong should still get a bulk of the playing...
