Is it bad I had no idea until today that Griffey even had a son?  Well he does, and his name is Trey Griffey.  He is a star wide receiver at his high school Dr. Phillips High in Orlando.  He has scholarships offers from Michigan State, Iowa State and Washington State and interest from Oregon, Tennessee and UCLA.  Not a bad lineup. Not to mention he was just named to the Under Armour All-American Game.  Hard to imagine that Griffey (who possessed one of the best swings in baseball history) would have a son that's wasn't athletic.  But to make it to the All-American game in a sports other than baseball is something to talk about.  The perfect way to get out of your father's shadows which plagues a lot of kids who have famous fathers.  Some of his High School highlights are in the video below. Some 20 or so years later, The Kid is the one greasing the wheels for a fame that his offspring might have achieved on his own accord anyway. High school senior Trey Griffey was named to the Under Armour...

Thursday news and notes

The Bakersfield Blaze have announced their field staff for the 2012 season. Ken Griffey Sr is returning as the manager, Rigo Beltran is returning as the pitching coach and Eli Marrero will be the hitting coach after spending last season with the Billings Mustangs in the same role. That leaves only the Pensacola squad left to name its field staff for the 2012 season. One of my favorite...
