MILWAUKEE - There was a lot to be happy about with Kyle Kendrick's start Sunday against the Brewers, but for Phillies manager Charlie Manuel, one thing in particular stood out. "He got Braun out, he gets a medal for that," Manuel said of Brewers' left fielder Ryan Braun. Braun came into the game hitting 6-for-11 with three home runs in the first three games of the series, but went 1-for-4 Sunday - and 0-for-3 against Kendrick - in the Brewers' 8-0 loss to Philadelphia at Miller Park. Kendrick worked eight shutout innings, throwing a season-high 114 pitches and allowed just three hits and one walk. He has thrown 15 consecutive scoreless innings, and also tied a season-high with seven strikeouts. "Strikeouts are overrated," Kendrick said. "They're nice, don't get me wrong, but my stuff is coming along. It's been good just trying to stay the same, that's the main thing ... it's easy when things are going well, but there...

BJ Rosenberg is in Trouble

Back in 2006 We Should Be GMs launched at the end of March right before the season started. We've witnessed lots of ups and downs, triumphs and defeats, mountains and valleys, highs and lows...oh, you get the point. However, we have not witnessed a Phillies pitcher as bad as BJ Rosenberg since the blog came into existence. And that does not bode well for him.Taking into consideration...

Phillies to Honor Jimmy Rollins Prior to Monday Night's Game

Last week Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins became the Phillies all-time games played leader, surpassing former Phillies player, coach, and manager Larry Bowa.    During "Behind the Pinstripes" on PHL 17 prior to today's Phillies game, Scott Palmer reported that the Phillies would honor Rollins prior to Monday's game as the Phillies host the Cincinnati Reds....

Phillies rotation still respected leaguewide

MILWAUKEE When Cliff Lee signed with the Philadelphia Phillies in December2010, putting the finishing brush strokes on a piece de resistance of a pitching rotation, the baseball world took notice. The Phillies, it appeared, had just constructed one of the best rotations in the history of major league baseball. That's not a title that anyone around the sport takes lightly...

When Hector Luna was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh after yesterday's 8-0 win over the Brewers, we all knew that Placido Polanco would be back with the team tonight. Today it was reported that Placido Polanco was activated from the DL after nearly a month's time spent with lower back inflammation. Brewers' Fiers struggles with command in loss

MILWAUKEE With just three home runs given up in 82 innings before Saturday's start against the Phillies, Michael Fiers had established himself as not only one of the best young pitchers in baseball this season, but also as one of the best, regardless of experience, at limiting long balls. But in a fashion that fell in line with his last start a 2.2-inning stinker that Fiers...

Vance Worley has yet another bad outing as the Phils lose to the Brewers, 6-2.

Vance Worley has another bad start as the Phils lose once again to the Brew Crew, 6-2. The Phils took the lead in the fourth as, with a runner on second, and with nobody out, Ryan Howard hits an RBI double, knocking in Chase Utley, who had started the inning off with a ground-rule double, giving the Phils a 1-0 lead. The Brewers took the lead in their half of the fourth as, with...

Hamels Halts Phillies Losing Skid

Not much has gone right for the Phillies this year. But at least we know that when Cole Hamels takes the mound, they at least have a shot at a win. After dropping 3 straight, the Phillies collected a win last night over the Brewers, thanks in large part to Hamels. Hamels cruised through 7 2/3 innings allowing only 1 run until 1 bad pitch in the 8th ran him out of the game. The Ryan...

Prime Nine: Milwaukee Brewers

Baseball is very cyclical in nature. Teams that are ultimately successful build through the farm system until they reach critical mass. Then, they begin to sign free agents and make trades with that farm system to get the last piece. The Brewers developed Ryan Braun, Prince Fielder, Corey Hart, and Rickie Weeks. They developed pitchers like Yovani Gallardo. Then. the...

Philles Can Still Make the Playoffs! #YouGottaBelieve

Many of us fans believe the Philadelphia Phillies are completely done, but are they? With a win over the Brewers last night, the Phillies record is now 56-65 putting the 11 games out of the Wild Card. With 41 games remaining this season, it becomes a long shot, but definitely not impossible. If the Fightins win 34 of their next 40 games, they will improve their record to 90-71. In...

The Return of Wilson Valdez: Phillies Cult Hero Returns to Philadelphia With Cincinnati Reds

A single one-inning pitching performance made Wilson Valdez a cult hero in Philadelphia.  Accordingly when Wilson Valdez was traded this offseason for left-handed reliever Jeremy Horst, widespread irrational panic broke out among Phillies fans.   Despite our Mike Frohwirth explaining that Wilson Valdez is not good at baseball at all, people worried about the Phillies chances...

10 notes about the Phillies series

After a successful 5-2 homestand, the Reds (74-48) head north to a place where they have struggled in season's past, The City of Brotherly Love. It is there that will be welcomed to Citizens Bank Park by the fourth-place Phillies (56-65), who are turning in a very disappointing campaign. Picked by many to win the NL East in the preseason, the Fightin' Phils have not...
