Kerry Wood Headed To The Phillies

Last week it seemed like only a matter of time until Kerry Wood re-signed with the franchise that he has spent the majority of his career with, the Chicago Cubs, but now there seems to be a new suitor in the mix for Wood. Reports have come out indicating that the Philadelphia Phillies are now in talks with Wood and that they are close to a deal. Even though Wood said that he had only two options when it came to free agency, either play for the Cubs or retire, it now seems that the chance to play on a contender and possibly a World Series is it just too much for Wood to pass up. The Phillies interest comes off of the basis of Jose Contreras’ health who is now 40 years old. Contreras had season-ending elbow surgery in August after he appeared in only 17 games (14 innings) for the Phillies last season.
