ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Jason Kipnis hit a two-run homer in the ninth inning off Joe Nathan and the Cleveland Indians snapped a five-game losing streak, beating the Texas Rangers 5-4 Thursday night. The Rangers remained three games ahead of Oakland in the AL West after the Athletics lost to the Los Angeles Angels. Nathan (2-4) had converted a club-record 31 straight save chances before the Indians erased a 4-2 deficit in the ninth. The right-hander's only other blown save this season came April 11 against Seattle. Ezequiel Carrera homered leading off the ninth. Pinch hitter Russ Canzler singled and Kipnis homered off to chase Nathan, who did not record an out. Scott Maine (1-0) got the final two outs in the eighth in his third appearance with the Indians this season. Chris Perez pitched the ninth for his 36th save in 40 tries, helping Cleveland avoid a three-game sweep. The Rangers scored twice to take a 4-2 lead in the eighth with the help of two errors. Kinsler makes first appearance at third base

ARLINGTON, Texas Ian Kinsler really, really wanted a ball hit to him in his first-ever appearance at third base. Kinsler took over the hot corner when both Adrian Beltre and Mike Olt went out with injuries in Wednesday's 5-2 win over Cleveland. A career second baseman, Kinsler played the last two innings at third but never got a chance to handle the ball. "I wanted something...

Rangers hold breath on Beltre, Hamilton, Olt injuries

For the 10th time this season, Adrian Beltre and Josh Hamilton homered in the same game Wednesday night. The Texas Rangers can only hope it's not the last chance they get. While the Rangers beat the Cleveland Indians 5-2 on Wednesday to guarantee they'd lose no ground on teams pursuing them in the AL West and AL home-field advantage races, they did lose three players...

Rangers to open 2013 season at Astros

The Texas Rangers won't have to wait long to play their new American League West division rivals in 2013. Texas will open the season April 2 on the road at Houston. The Rangers will follow that series with their home opener April 5 against the Los Angeles Angels to start a six-game homestand. The Houston series will mark the first time since 2008 the Rangers have opened the season...

Rangers' Hamilton left out of Thursday's starting lineup

Texas Rangers center fielder Josh Hamilton was left out of the starting lineup for Thursday's game against Cleveland because of a sore left knee, but Adrian Beltre was in the lineup as the designated hitter. Manager Ron Washington had planned to rest Beltre, who left Wednesday's game with a left shoulder strain. But Beltre was able to talk his way back into the lineup...

Beltre, Hamilton homer … then leave game

Adrian Beltre. Adrian Beltre. Adrian Beltre. There’s nothing that man can’t do.  He hit a two-run home run in the 1st and then made a spectacular play in the next frame.  But we’re used to that kind of night from him.  They’re pretty much the standard.  He left the game late with shoulder soreness, and Ron Washington they were awaiting MRI results during the post-game...

Rangers look to sweep moribund Indians

The Texas Rangers' high-powered offense is a major reason for their AL-best record and why they're a strong favorite to reach a third straight World Series. Adrian Beltre and Josh Hamilton have been among their most productive hitters, but neither may be in the lineup Thursday night when Texas seeks a three-game sweep of the visiting Cleveland Indians. Beltre continued his...

Box Score: Tigers 4, Indians 0

So this one was pretty much over in the first inning, right? Justin Verlander against Corey Kluber isn’t really fair, and after Detroit scored 2 in the first, then 2 more in the second, this one was over. Kudos to the bullpen — Chris Seddon and Frank Herrmann — at least, for settling the score at that. But Verlander went a very solid seven innings and the abysmal Indians offense...

Hamilton, Beltre homer as Rangers beat Indians

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Josh Hamilton and Adrian Beltre homered before each left the game with injuries, and the Texas Rangers beat the slumping Cleveland Indians 5-2 Wednesday night. Hamilton didn't take the field in the top of the eighth inning, and the Rangers announced just before the game ended that the slugger was forced out because of left knee soreness. Beltre hit...

Darvish gets 200th K, Rangers score seven in 9th

It looked like tonight’s game might be a pitcher’s duel.  But the Rangers saved all their offense for the very end of the game.  So mean. For the first eight innings, the Rangers had just two runs, courtesy of the long ball  — a lead-off shot from Ian Kinsler and a no doubter to upper right field porch from Josh Hamilton (#42 this season, if you’re not keeping count)....
