Found April 22, 2013 on Fox Sports Midwest:
PHILADELPHIA (AP) Erik Kratz sprinted like mad from first to home to score the tying run in the seventh inning. Pretty good legs for a catcher. Kratz enjoyed his next trip around the bases so much more - this time, with a leisurely jog. He hit a three-run home run to break the game open in the eighth inning and lead the Philadelphia Phillies to a 7-3 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday night. Mike Adams (1-1) tossed a scoreless eighth inning to help the Phillies split the four-game series. The Phillies snapped a 3-3 tie with a four-run eighth that put the game away. Michael Young extended his hitting streak to 12 games with an infield single off reliever Mitchell Boggs (0-2). Dom Brown singled to put runners on the corners with one out. Ben Revere made it 4-3 on a go-ahead single up the middle. Kratz then hit the first pitch deep into the left-field seats for a three-run homer and a 7-3 lead. "I was able to put the barrel on it and that's the name of the game,&...

How bad is the decline of Ryan Howard, really?

Ryan Howard is an easy target of criticism by Phillies fans. For those who pay attention to the deeper numbers and statistics of the game, Ryan Howard has his flaws. This cannot be denied when taking his contract value in to consideration. But as the month of April starts to wind down I was curious how Howard's first month of the season has compared to some of his previous Aprils...

Pettibone Solid in Debut, Phils Beat Pirates in Series Opener

Jonathan Pettibone’s major league debut was a success in the Phillies 3-2 win. Pettibone’s Performance -Really impressive outing for Jonathan Pettibone. After the first few batters it didn’t look like he’d make it one inning, let alone 5 1/3. The rookie struck out six, did not issue a walk, and allowed only six hits. Two of those hits were solo home runs. -Before the game...

Suspended Phillies Catcher Carlos Ruiz May Be Injured

A quick update on Phillies catcher Carlos Ruiz. On Friday, we learned that Carlos Ruiz was hit by a pitch in extended Spring Training down in Clearwater. It was not really news, because he had an x-ray and the results were good news as the x-ray showed no break. However,...

Carlos Ruiz to make debut on Sunday

Carlos Ruiz will make his season debut for the Phillies on Sunday after playing two games at Double-A. Ruiz was suspended for the first 25 games of the season after testing positive for amphetamines. The Phillies will certainly welcome the bat of Ruiz back to the lineup. Last year the 34-year-old hit .325/.394/.540 with 16 home runs and 68 RBI. During the absences of Ruiz the Phillies...

Phillies Bats Go Missing In Loss To Cardinals

Cliff Lee didn’t look himself tonight (Photo: AP). Cliff Lee was cold and the bats were colder. The recipe was toxic, and made for a long and boring night for the Phillies, who fell to the Cardinals 5-0. The loss dropped the Phillies to 7-11 on the season. LEE LOOKS HUMAN - As I wrote in tonight’s Gameday, no Phillies pitcher has instilled more confidence in the team than Cliff...

Philadelphia Phillies Recall Jonathan Pettibone, Option Joe Savery

MLB News: The Philadelphia Phillies recalled pitcher Jonathan Pettibone from Triple-A Lehigh Valley while optioning pitcher Joe Savery to the same affiliate on Monday. Pettibone will make a spot start tonight and has a shot at becoming a long term answer if he does well. Savery has a good shot at being called up again sometime during the year. Fantasy Ramifications: Neither provide...

Carlos Ruiz To Begin "Rehab" Assignment In Clearwater On Tuesday

Just a day after a brief injury scare, Phillies catcher Carlos Ruiz will begin a "rehab" assignment starting Tuesday. "Rehab" may not be the best word choice, particularly after a suspension for taking not-approved drugs, but Ruiz will get the opportunity to get back into playing shape with five games...

Drama Ensues in Phillies Win Over the Cards

A 7-3 win for the Phillies over the Cardinals on Sunday night ended the series with each team taking 2 out of 4 games.  It was a very long game, on a very cold night with a virtual buffet of interesting and weird happenings. It all began with the Phanatic’s birthday bash/movie premiere (Time Traveling Phanatic DVD) which was highlighted by faux Hollywood stars and actors from...

Five Ways To Fix The Phillies Offense

Let's face it, the Phillies kind of stink. I mean, they don't full blown stink, but their style of play has been disheartening to say the least. The offense is particularly horrific. I've racked my brain for ways to quick fix this team right now. We cannot wait until next...

Offense Erupts Late, Phils Earn Split With Cards

After striking for two runs in the first, the Phillies offense was unable to get to a very hittable Jake Westbrook through six innings on Sunday night.  Enter the Cardinals bullpen.  The Phils scored five runs in the seventh and eighth – three of which came off a towering three-run shot from Erik Kratz – to notch a 7-3 victory and a series split against St. Louis.  Kyle Kendrick...

Kyle Kendrick Takes The Mound In Series Finale As Phils Look For Split

Compared to Friday's game, last night's game was just absolutley pitiful. The Phillies managed just three hits, their first coming in the bottom of the fifth. Lance Lynn held the Phillies in check, yielding just one hit through seven innings. Cliff Lee was held accountable for last night's game as...

Phillies Nation TV: Halladay, Lee, J-Roll & Johari

On this weeks edition of Phillies Nation TV, Pat and Corey dissect the latest outing from Roy Halladay and the positives they’re seeing from the veteran righty. This past weekend, Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports  mentioned the possibility of Cliff Lee being a trade candidate later in the summer. Will the rumors ramp back up again? Ryann Williams got an upfront seat for the opening...

Cardinal Rule

Cliff Lee entered tonight’s game against St. Louis with an earned run average not far above one. His record was two wins, no losses and he walked only one batter prior to tonight. He had gone at least seven innings in his first three starts, allowing a total of only two runs. He would hit a [...]
