I wasn’t exactly sure what part of the game I should begin with here, but I suppose the implosion of Kyle Drabek would be as good a place to start as any. We’ve seen a lot of things from the short time that Drabek has spent in the big league so far, but one thing we haven’t experience yet was a complete and total meltdown on the mound. Well, that changed tonight, as Drabek was unable to get out of the first inning in what wound up as a 9-13 slugfest between the Blue Jays and Indians.
You couldn’t even say that the 23-year old rookie came to the mound without his best stuff; a more accurate description is that he came out with nothing working. He was getting no control of his secondary pitches, so he relied on coming back with his fastball – which the Indians promptly took advantage of, by hitting Drabek hard; when he tried to adjust to this by going back to his off-speed stuff, he didn’t have any control and wound up walking guys.
