Each day during the regular season you’ll find a regular feature here on Full Spectrum Baseball called “Line of the Day“. It will feature the best on-field performance of the day with a mix of real world impact and fantasy baseball analysis. Enjoy!

SP Kyle Lohse of the St. Louis Cardinals took a no-hitter into the seventh inning and spoiled the Miami Marlins’ home opener in their new ballpark. Thrust into the Opening Day starter role when Chris Carpenter was sidelined with an injury, Lohse helped the defending World Champions start off the 2012 season right with a 4-1 victory over the revamped Marlins.

Line: 7.1 IP | 2 H | 1 ER | 0 BB | 3 K; W (1-0) | QS

My fantasy perspective: Lohse is only owned in 7.2% of ESPN leagues but you can expect that number to rise after tonight’s performance. I’d advise you to use restraint if you are deciding to drop a player to pick up Lohse. It’s one start and there’s no reason to go blowing up your roster unless you are already handcuffed by injuries or you truly have a player on your roster worth dropping.

Agree? Disagree? Check out ESPN’s formula for determining the best daily performances and nominate your own Line of the Day player using the comments section below and/or hitting me up on Twitter @DJAubain.
