When Los Angeles Angels outfielder Vernon Wells pulled up lame running out a ground ball in the fourth inning of last night’s game between the Angels and Chicago White Sox, it was painfully obvious that Wells would be headed to the disabled list. Sure enough, right after the game, Wells was indeed placed on the 15-day DL, and the expected call to replace Wells on the roster will not be going to Halos’ top prospect Mike Trout. Trout, who is currently hitting .313 with a 1.001 OPS in the pitcher-friendly Texas League with Double-A Arkansas, will stay right where he is and continue his development. Angels’ manager Mike Scisocia indicated after last night’s game that either Reggie Willits or Chris Petit would be getting the call. Both Willits and Petit are currently hitting under .200 at Triple-A Salt Lake, and while Trout is absolutely the better outfielder at this point in time, the Angels would rather he continue developing at his current pace. “We’...
