There are really only five starting 1B options through free agency; the often injured Nick Johnson, the aging and injured Carlos Delgado, Journeyman off a career year Russell Branyan, struggling Hank Blalock and Adam LaRoche...Of course, the Mets could get creative, as I suggested with Kevin Kouzmanoff or they could make a trade. But of course, Omar considers his prospects precious as evident by the lack of trades over the past two years, so the quick fix is a free agent signing. Adam LaRache seems to be the most appealing, he's not an all or nothing power hitter who will rack up the strike outs in between mammoth shots but he has decent power while putting up a solid average. Johnson has a far better glove and OBP but LaRoche's make up for it in durability and is a decent defender.
