Through most of their roller coaster season, the Cleveland Indians have been able to count on two areas of the team to perform consistently: the defense and the back of the bullpen. Both areas collapsed Tuesday night, and Cleveland lost its 11th game in a row.

Shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera, second baseman Jason Kipnis and first baseman Casey Kotchman all made errors in the last three innings as the Indians blew a 5-1 seventh-inning lead and lost 7-5 to the Minnesota Twins. Cleveland led 5-4 in the ninth inning, but closer Chris Perez blew his second save in three days.

It was another gut-wrenching defeat for the Indians, and it came in a game when they finally got a solid performance from their starting pitcher. Corey Kluber pitched into the seventh inning, allowing just three runs (one earned), but even that wasn't enough.

The Indians are clearly pressing to try to end the streak. The errors are evidence of that, particularly the one by Kipnis, which was a routine grounder that rolled right through his legs, allowing two runs to score.

The streak has played havoc with the roster, as manager Manny Acta and the front office furiously search for a winning combination while attempting to reinforce an overworked bullpen. Prior to Tuesday's game the Indians designated infielder/outfielder Jose Lopez for assignment, only because they had to call up a pitcher to help out in the overworked bullpen. Reliever Frank Herrmann was recalled from Class AAA Columbus. The Indians are now carrying 13 pitchers and just three bench players.

During the course of the streak, the Indians have cut four players -- pitchers Derek Lowe and Jeremy Accardo, outfielder Johnny Damon and Lopez -- and they have added two new starters to the rotation: Kluber and Chris Seddon.

Nothing has worked, however, and on Wednesday the Indians will attempt to avoid tying the 81-year-old club record for the longest losing streak.
