Left-handed pitcher Doug Davis‘ days in Milwaukee are numbered according to Tom Haudricout of the Journal Sentinel. Davis is hoping to get a few innings of work in before the season is done with hopes that another team will notice. The 32-year-old pitcher missed much of the season with a virus of his heart lining and later elbow tendinitis.
“I feel fine now,” said Davis. “It’s important to prove I’m healthy. I know it’s too little, too late (for the Brewers), but I’d like to end the year on a good note.”
There’s a $6.5 mutual option for 2011 between Davis and the Brewers, but it’s unlikely the Brewers will exercise their half. Instead, they’ll pay a $1 million buyout.
Davis will attempt to audition himself at winter ball with the hopes that he’ll catch the eye of a new employer.
“I think that will be good for me,” said Davis. “I won’t pitch the whole winter. Just enough to show that I’m OK.”
In eight games this season, Davis went 1-4 with a 7.51 ERA in 38 1/3 innings pitched.
