In a phone conversation with Comcast SportsNet (via John R. Finger of CSNPhilly.com), retired relief pitcher Scott Eyre would be receptive to a return to the Philadelphia Phillies if the team was interested. Eyre mentioned that no one from the Phillies organization has contacted him or his agent. Eyre retired last winter, but as recently as last March, he was open to a comeback. “I’m not against [a comeback] completely,” Eyre said in March. “Somebody would have to call me. But my elbow feels good. I throw batting practice to my two boys every couple days. I’ll stay in shape just in case.” The Phillies offered Eyre a Minor League contract in December. Since retirement, the 38-year-old has had off-season elbow surgery and spent the summer traveling with his family. If he returns, he says he would need about three weeks of training before being ready to pitch. The left-hander had a 2-1 record with a 1.50 ERA in 42 appearances for the Phillies in 2009.
