- Wondering whether Brad Lidge still has a tight grip on his closer's role? Scott Lauber has Charlie Manuel's reaction, in which he may stand by Lidge "until the end of the damn season." Let's hope that doesn't become "the damned season." What do you all think, time for a change, or let Lidge work it out?
- If you hear "Kevin Youkilis charged the mound like Bald Bull," who would you have between him and pitcher Rick Porcello in that tangle? I was wrong too! Walkoff Walk has the viddy, and if you're reading this in the MLB-lawyered future, FackYouk has a sustainable video of patchwork stills from the charge, as well as some fun commentary including: "For a guy that has been hit by 52 pitches in his career and hangs over the plate like he's drunk at a urinal, Youk sure takes getting hit pretty personally."
- Around the division, the Marlins and Braves won, the Mets lost, and the Nats played the Braves. Objects in your rearview aren't very good, but they're still closer than they should be.
- The Steelers and the PA Staties know how to throw a gun party. The pic is worth the click alone.
- In what's become an annual tradition, Sarge serenaded the Cubs fans last night. You will be shocked to learn that Meech had the video up 4 seconds before the final note. Also, Denver Matthews has star power.
Remember when we found out that Phillies prospect "Dominic" Brown was actually "Domonic" Brown? Well apparently he's gonna have trouble shaking that misspelling thing.
What do restaurant sex, infidelity, dismissed allegations, extortions, abortions, chance encounters with future ex's, and college hoops have in common? Rick Pitino...
Today's Flyers WATN installments include... Robert Esche starring in Russian commercials, and if you were wondering how Scottie Upshall is doing, well, we can't say for sure when this was taken, but Scottie's romantic interest posted this pic on twitter last night. Over the winter, Scottie was linked to Melanie Collins, Penn State alum, model, and NBA TV personality. That's her on the left. Today she's househunting in Scottsdale, where Upshall plays these days.
Yesterday was an odd one for the Eagles QB situation. A coaching intern who set records at UDel was signed to be the third stringer, then the NFL nullified the contract after a single practice, and then Temple's Adam DiMichele was inked. As you might imagine, this carousel leaves open the Michael Vick rumors. I don't see that as even a remote possibility, but you know he's going to end up somewhere.
How's the progress coming on the Union's new stadium down in Chester? Not too shabby, says the Delco Times.
And finally, two shout-outs today. First, happy birthday to the Gootman, Scott Carroll. Second, a big get well soon to Comcast SportsNet's Michael Barkann. Barkann had a pretty tough surgery on his ankle, and we wish him the best.
