The Pirates did not get a hit until Brandon Boggs singled off non-roster invitee Luis Perdomo in the eighth inning. Perdomo was the fourth of five Twins pitchers. With an exception of one four-run inning in his last spring start, Liriano has not given up a run in his other 12 innings this spring. Twins turn the page on dismal 2011 season

After spending 12 days watching the Minnesota Twins in Fort Myers, I can tell you this: This team will not lose 99 games again this season. That may not exactly be going out on a limb, since the only other time the Twins lost that many games was in 1982 when they finished 60-102. But after an injury-plagued season a year ago, Minnesota will certainly be improved from last year&...

Twins have division's best behind the plate

PROJECTED STARTER Joe Mauer, .287 BA, 3 HRs, 30 RBIs in 2011 Mauer is a three-time batting champion and a former American League MVP. But the Minnesota Twins' star catcher was a shell of himself in 2011. Mauer batted a career-low .287 and slugged just .368, also the lowest of his eight-year career. Most notably, Mauer played in just 82 games due to numerous injuries, including...

Twins send Nishioka to Triple-A to start season

The Minnesota Twins have assigned struggling infielder Tsuyoshi Nishioka to Triple-A Rochester in hopes that the Japanese import can find his game in the minor leagues. Nishioka was hitting .240 in nine games this spring. After a difficult first season in the United States last year, Nishioka has looked no more comfortable at the plate or in the field with the Twins this spring...

Twins 5x5 2012 Prospect Rankings

One thing became abundantly clear when compiling both top fives for the Twins, their high ceiling talent lies in the low minors. For an older squad that could use some present day help, that's probably not a good thing. Regardless, the trio that fronts the Twins prospect list could provide some serious punch in a few years. Top 5 fantasy baseball prospects 1- Miguel...

Twins assign Japanese IF Nishioka to Triple-A Rochester

The Minnesota Twins sent infielder Tsuyoshi Nishioka to Triple-A Rochester on Monday. Signed to a three-year, $9.25 million contract prior to last season, the Japanese star batted just .226 with 19 RBIs in 68 contests as he adjusted to the North American style of play. Nishioka was also hampered by injuries. He missed 59 contests with a lower left leg injury before an oblique ailment...

No matter who's on first, Twins are prepared

PROJECTED STARTER Justin Morneau, .227 BA, 4 HRs, 30 RBIs in 2011 Justin Morneau has only played a total of 150 games over the last two seasons combined. A concussion cut his 2010 season short -- just 81 games -- after he posted All-Star numbers. One year later, Morneau played just 69 games due to multiple ailments, including neck surgery and another concussion. In 2009, he missed...

Former First Baseman Ken Harvey is from Los Angeles, CA but like most Cali boys who graduate from Beverly Hills High School he became a Cornhusker at Nebraska. Harvey did work in college and was named an All-American and First Team Big 12 in 1999. Harvey committed Teddy Williams that year and hit .478 setting the new Big 12 batting average record. The 1999 Nebraska team was most...
