Monkey with a Halo:
For years the Angels prided themselves on playing immensely smart baseball. They played aggressively on the basepaths and forced other teams to make mistakes. They played solid defense and got timely hits from unlikely sources. The current roster is the antithesis of those teams. Today the Angels made defensive miscues that led to runs, the baserunners couldn't execute on the bases and hitters who needed to make contact swung and missed. So even though they overcame nearly being no-hit to tie it up and send it to extra innings, it was the little things that did them in in the end.
Angels 4 Orioles 5
-- Mark Trumbo homered again and continues to be the only real threat in the Angel line-up. Although Trout did get the game tying RBI, it is really Turmbo and a bunch of sub par hitters right now.
-- Tommy Hanson struggled early but managed to keep his team in the game. Hanson looked like he was going to get blasted but settled down just enough to allow the Angel offense to scratch even.
-- A lot was made of Josh Hamilton getting the day off until he pinch hit in the tenth. This is one of Scioscia's famous "breathers" to clear his head. To his credit, Hamilton did take the first pitch he saw before flying out weakly. So, progress?
-- For the first two thirds of the game it looked like the Angels might get no hit. They could not get a read on Freddy Garcia and his array of junk. I have to admit I was releived when the got to him because I don't think I could stomach a no hitter right now.
-- Garrett Richards got his first shot in his new role as key to the Angels bullpen and all he did was surrender the game winning run. When Richards is right he is unhittable but right now he is getting way to much of the plate. As a result he is very hittable.
Halo A Hole
Brendan Harris is a ceremonial representative of the A Hole for today's game. Harris was a defensive sub in extras adn immediately booted a potential double play chance. The runner eventually came around to score the winning run. Without a little thing like a missed double play chance, the Angels go to the bottom of the tenth tied rather than down one. Such a little thing, but the difference it made was great.
BEST OF MAXIM
One more note on the Angels - Orioles game. As everyone knows, Josh Hamilton has been awful so far with the Angels after signing this huge contract. He is continuing his trend from last year at swinging at everything and is batting like .208 or something. And so his manager sat him yesterday against the Orioles. That was dumb.
Why was it dumb when Hamilton just went zero for...

I’m sure by now you’ve realized that many of the Angels faithful have a problem with the playing of Build Me Up, Buttercup by The Foundations during the seventh inning. And by “problem” I mean the absolute hatred and revulsion that most hardcore Angels fans feel toward this song.
And it’s really a pity...
The Baltimore Orioles have purchased the contract of veteran starter Freddy Garcia from Triple-A Norfolk. To make room for him Baltimiore has designated pitcher Zach Clark for assignment. Clark will have to clear waivers for the Orioles to have a shot at retaining his services. In an unrelated move, Baltimore has outrighted catcher Luis Exposito to the same minor league affiliate...

GAME 28 - ANGELS AT BLUE JAYS
TORONTO -- A bloop hit, an error, a walk and suddenly Troy Percival was in the eye of the storm again. The Angels closer, called upon to save a two-run lead in the ninth inning Friday night against the Toronto Blue Jays, didn't blink.
With the bases loaded and one out, Percival...
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- J.J. Hardy and Manny Machado each hit a two-run homer off Jerome Williams in his first start of the season, leading the Baltimore Orioles to an 8-4 victory over the reeling Los Angeles Angels on Sunday.

During this offseason, the biggest free agent on the market Josh Hamilton signed with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. The Texas Rangers failed to resign him and he decided to sign with their American League West rival the Angels to the tune of 5 yrs/ $125M.
So far Hamilton is batting .207 with only 2 long balls and 9 RBI’s, not quite the stat line the Angeles had anticipated...
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- Jason Vargas pitched a three-hitter for his first victory with his new club, Mark Trumbo and Mike Trout homered and the Los Angeles Angels beat the Baltimore Orioles 4-0 Friday night.
Vargas (1-3) threw 107 pitches, striking out three and walking two while getting 15 groundball outs. The shutout was the fourth by the left-hander in 136 career starts and his...
Watching the Angels this season, I keep thinking, "Why does Mike Scioscia need this?"
This is his 14th season in Anaheim. His best teams had an aggressive, distinctive style. This one revolves largely around two free-agent sluggers whose worst years are ahead of them, Albert Pujols and Josh Hamilton.
The Angels no longer run. They no longer play crisp defense. They'...
Baltimore fans can breathe a collective sigh of relief, as the knee injury first baseman Chris Davis sustained in Friday's game against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim does not appear to be as severe as initially thought.
Davis did some running on the field. Said everything felt good. Is wearing brace on that right knee.

Freddy Garcia pitched six innings without allowing a hit in his first start of the 2013 season but the Orioles needed extra innings to defeat the Angels on Saturday.
Garcia’s final line was 6 2/3 innings in which he allowed two runs on three hits and a walk. The right hander struck out one before being replaced by Darren O’Day. Garcia’s hopes of picking up his first win of...

Steve Pearce's RBI single with two outs in the 10th inning lifted the Baltimore Orioles to a 5-4 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday.
Baltimore also got homers from Manny Machado, J.J. Hardy and Nolan Reimold.

The game started out so promissing. Jerome Williams gave up a run in the top of the first, and the Angels responded by scoring three in the bottom of the first. Even when the Orioles rallied back on a two-run homerun by JJ Hardy, Trout gave them the lead again one a solo homerun. However, it just wasn't meant to be. The Angels had two opportunities with the bases loaded and got...
