St. Louis Cardinals
Kyle Lohse stole the spotlight from the opening of Marlins Park, holding Miami hitless for the first six innings as St. Louis won its season opener 4-1 on Wednesday.
David Freese, the MVP of last season’s NLCS and World Series, drove home two first-inning runs and finished 3-for-5 for the defending world champion Cardinals (1-0). St Louis banged out 13 hits, three from Rafael Furcal, and two each from Yadier Molina and Carlos Beltran.
But Lohse was the big story in the first regular-season game in the Marlins’ new $515 million home. The right-hander retired the first 10 hitters before hitting Emilio Bonifacio with a pitch with one out in the fourth. He then retired eight in a row until new Marlins’ shortstop Jose Reyes led off the seventh with a sharp single to right.
Lohse gave up two hits and one run in 7.1 innings, striking out three and throwing 56 of his 90 pitches for strikes.
Freese gave Lohse all the support he needed in the first, driving a sharp single to left to score...

St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Lance Berkman doesn't appear to care much for the new Miami Marlins stadium, saying, "there were a lot of shenanigans."
There have been a few changes since last we saw the World Champion St. Louis Cardinals. You may have heard something about this. First, Tony La Russa is not managing the team for the first time since 1996. I didn’t have email in 1996. Second, 1b Albert Pujols has moved on to greener pastures, signing a 10 year, 240 million dollar contract with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim...
MIAMI (AP) -- Kyle Lohse didn't allow a hit until the seventh inning and pitched into the eighth Wednesday night to help the World Series champion St. Louis Cardinals spoil the Miami Marlins' debut in their new ballpark, 4-1.
The Marlins' new animated home-run sculpture never budged. It was the fourth inning before they managed a baserunner, and but the time they scored...
Springfield, MO - The St. Louis Cardinals have announced the Springfield Cardinals roster for the upcoming season.
New Manager Mike Shildt and returning Hitting Coach Phillip Wellman and Pitching Coach Bryan Eversgerd will be well stocked heading into the 2012 season.
Returning to the roster are 15 players who appeared in a Springfield uniform last year, including Texas League...
2012 Outlook – 60 (8th)
One down, 161 to go, right?
I think the assumption around baseball was if Albert Pujols left the Cardinals, he would leave a husk of a team behind him. If his teammates didn’t prove their worth enough throughout their playoff run in 2011, they’ll get ample chance to do so in 2012. They should be up to the challenge, as this roster was especially well...
Jayson Stark did an article for ESPN yesterday that talked about some of the St. Louis Cardinals’ reactions to the new stadium in Miami. I found some of the comments pretty damn funny…
Cardinals 1B Lance Berkman:
“I just feel like, if it were up to me — and it’s not; nobody asked me, and I don’t know why anybody would care about my opinion — but if I was building...

Just seven days before the St. Louis Cardinals season opener, new manager Mike Matheny began openly wondering about the status of his veteran...

Premise of Video: It’s Rafael Furcal with his game pants down and making some corrections to his uniform, but shows just how many different angles cameras will have at this Marlins Ballpark. State-of-the-art, you know.
Climax of Video: Easy, ladies. No dong to be seen here.
Conclusion: If this is any indication of things to come this season, expect...

A lot can happen in one offseason, and the reigning World Champion St. Louis Cardinals and Miami Marlins are a perfect example.
The Marlins are kicking off 2012 with a complete face lift: a new name and a spastic jazzy new logo on their uniforms, a new skipper in Ozzie Guillen along with a few high-end acquisitions like Heath Bell, Jose Reyes, Mark Buehrle, and Carlos Zambrano...
Well played, Kyle Lohse. Well played indeed. And doesn't this picker look like a dope. To pull up the old saw by the hemp rope, "That's why they play the game." If you count the two preseason games against the Yankees, the Marlins are now 0-3 in their new ballpark. That's not good. And what a drag that they didn't get to shoot off that home run contraption...
Baseball season finally arrived in the United States as the Marlins took on the St. Louis Cardinals in Miami. The game was a little lacking, but that stadium looked pretty sweet. If you ask us, the...
