The skipper may have inspired a Man-of-Steel type performance from A.J. Griffin, as the right-hander matched his season high total of eight strikeouts and zero walks over seven innings in the 5-1 victory over Texas.
“I was really hitting my spots today. That’s the best start command-wise that I have had in the major leagues,” said Griffin.
The Rangers returned to Oakland for the first time since being swept in an AL west deciding series last October. Entering the game losers of six of the past seven, it was a statement win for the A’s to knockoff the team with the best record in the majors to start their six game homestand.
