MVN:
Halladay became the first pitcher in the Majors this year to earn his tenth victory as he pitched a complete game shutout against the Kansas City Royals. Doc's performance, which included seven hits allowed, six strikeouts and no walks was even more impressive considering he showed no signs of fatigue after pitching a complete game-133 pitch outing fives games previous against the Angels. The Royals were able to muster seven hits against the Blue Jays, but were not able to get important hits like the Jays did. Overbay cranked a solo shot to centre field and Aaron Hill broke out of an uncharacteristic 0-25 slump by hitting a two-run shot. The Jays move on to Texas to face off against the Rangers, who surprisingly still lead the West. Considering the offensive strengths of both clubs, this series should be fun. Casey Jannsen (1-2, 5.82 ERA) goes up against Scott Feldman (5-0, 3.79 ERA) in game one.Quick thoughts for the night:Zack Greinke and Roy Halladay are runaway leaders for both the starting all-star game pitcher and early Cy Yound candidacy. Lets take a look at how the two match up:Zack Greinke: 8-2 with a 1.55 ERA. 5 complete games and 2 shutouts while pitching 87 innings. He has 91 strikeouts while holding opposition to a .223 batting average.Roy Halladay: 10-1 with a 2.52 ERA. 3 complete games and one shutout while pitching 100 innings. He has 88 strikeouts and held opposition to a .243 average. As of now, I would say Greinke as the slight edge as he pitches for a worse team and does not have the run support that Halladay has received, but this matchup is going to be very interesting as the season progresses.Scott Rolen has missed his second consecutive game due to a minor back strain. I really hope it is minor because he has been both a defensive and offensive cog in this lineup. Production from the corner infield position has been great with both Rolen and Overbay hovering around a .300 average. Overbay is actually the hottest Jays hitter posting a 13 game hit streak. After the 9 game losing streak, the Jays countered with a 5-4 homestand. Not the greatest response, but with the kind of baseball the Yankees and Red Sox are playing, a winning record matters.
