The Miami Marlins won Saturday’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals 3-1 after a nearly two hour rain delay.  In all, the game took over four hours to play due to the unusually long delay by Spring Training standards.    Long before the final out, Josh Johnson threw the first pitch of the day in his second start of the Spring.

Johnson struggled with his efficiency throwing 51 pitches in only two and a third innings.  The Marlins’ ace struck out three but also walked two as he continues his comeback from an injury plagued 2011 season.    Daniel Jennings finished out the third inning in perfect fashion.  Entering with a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning, Bell gave glimpses of what to expect in the ninth inning during the season.    The new Marlins’ closer worked a scoreless inning striking out two.   Mike Dunn, Brad Hand, Elih Villanueva, and Evan Reed all saw action in the game.   The win was credited to Hand while the save was awarded to Reed.   The electric Reed struck out two in a perfect inning as he continues to show he is worthy of an Opening Day bullpen spot.

The scoring got underway early for the Marlins when Omar Infante hit his first homerun in the Spring during the first inning.    Before the rain came in the fifth, Jose Reyes picked up a hit.  Due to the lengthy delay, and possible damp surface — Reyes was removed as a precautionary move following the delay.   His replacement, Donovan Solano picked up a pair of hits including a double.  Solano will likely head to minor league camp soon as he is not a contender for a roster spot.

On Sunday the Marlins will travel to Port St. Lucie to face the New York Mets with Mark Buehrle scheduled to make his first start of the Grapefruit League.  The veteran pitched against the University of Miami last week.   Going for the Mets will be Johan Santana.
