Tampa Bay Rays manager Joe Maddon said before Wednesday's game he expected to see a different David Price than the one who's showed up for his most recent starts. Maddon said Price appeared motivated this week seemed more animated around the clubhouse and in the dugout. “I think you're going to see prime David” Maddon said. Well the left-hander has been more prime but he was more than good enough to lead the Rays past the New York Yankees in another crucial late-September game at Yankee Stadium. Backed by some power from Evan Longoria who homered twice and David DeJesus Price snapped a personal three-game losing streak and pitched the Rays to a 8-3 victory at Yankee Stadium. The Rays winners of six straight for the season time this season held on to their lead atop the AL Wild Card standings with the win and lead the Cleveland Indians by one game and the Texas Rangers by two with four games to play. The Rays reduced their magic number to clinch a playoff berth to three and to win the Wild Card to four. Price earned his first win since Aug. 24. He was 0-3 in five starts since then with the three losses tying his career-long losing streak. The Rays finish this three-game series at Yankee Stadium Thursday night then finish the regular season this weekend with a three-game series against the Blue Jays in Toronto. The Indians finish the regular season with four games against the Twins in Minnesota while the Rangers finish with four against the visiting Los Angeles Angels. Alex Cobb the Rays most consistent pitcher this season starts Thursday for the Rays. “He's been on some pretty good runs in the past” Maddon said. “I'd say he's pitching as well as he can right now.” Cobb won his last two starts to earn player of the week honors in the American League. He said he's embracing pitching in these important games that will determine the final two playoff spots. “I love having the ball in these games” Cobb said.
