Ah, what a comfort it is to know that, after a tough extra inning walk-off loss last night in Baltimore, the Yankees have their ace pitching in the rubber game tonight. But wait, you might be saying, CC Sabathia pitched in the first game of the series, right?Yes, but who said CC was the ace of the pitching staff? If you really think CC Sabathia is the Yankees ace, you've been asleep since the season began. The real ace of the Yankees pitching staff is Hiroki Kuroda. As he proved last season, making the transition from pitching in the NL West to pitching in the AL East doesn't have to be as hard as everyone says it is. Since he began his Yankee career he has put up better numbers than he did with the Los Angeles Dodgers.  His record after four years with LA was 41-46 with a 3.45 ERA. Since last season with the Yankees, he is 22-13 with a 3.04 ERA. Really, it's supposed to be the other way around, but Kuroda has bucked that trend. When Kuroda  arrived for his first Yankee Sp...

The Yankees are about to become the most ungrateful team in sports, and I am now dreading the return of the superstar lineup

Damn. I feel like the cad who falls for his best friend's fiance, while the guy is off at the Star Fleet Academy. I keep telling myself, "No, this is NOT happening! I'll break it off! I'm am not falling for Brian's girl!" Then the girl - her name is Lyle - homers in the seventh, and you can't take your eyes off her, and later, you're together in...

Adams Has A Winning At Bat In A Losing Effort

On Wednesday night rotation stalwart Hiroki Kuroda had an injury shortened and ineffective outing, and rookie reliever Preston Claiborne finally showed some vulnerability as the Yankees fell to their A.L. East division rivals, the Baltimore Orioles. On a good note, however, David Adams, the rookie 3B, provided a spark of optimism. The Yankees had seven hits last night, half...

Yankees Game 44: Hafner & Wells Clip the Birds

The Assassin (Photo: Wiki Commons) New York Yankees 6–Baltimore Orioles 4 Where would we be without Travis Hafner and Vernon Wells? Once again, it was the two off-season acquisitions who came up with the big hits, powering the Yanks to their 12th come-from-behind victory of the season. Down 4-3 in the 9th, Hafner blasted a game-tying, opposite-field shot to left field, providing...

Yankees: Can Hughes redeem himself vs. Orioles

Phil Hughes during pregame warmups prior to a game between the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles on August 29, 2011 (Photo credit: Wikipedia) After finally earning my semi-endorsement, Yankees starter Phil Hughes went on to have his worst outing yet. Hughes couldn’t muster enough to get through the first inning in his last outing vs. the Mariners. He got tagged for seven earned...

Yankees' Mark Teixeira takes first at-bats since injury

Mark Teixeira first announced the fact that he had taken some good at-bats via his Twitter account yesterday.  The team then confirmed his progress and prognosis.  They are still guarded about his potential return date, but for Teixeira to take some swings for the first time since his wrist injury is a good thing. Felt good to get my first AB's since March. 1-2 with a...

David Adams Provides Yankees Options for the Future

It’s been Preston Claiborne and Shawn Kelley stealing the show in the bullpen, easily the most dominant makeup of the New York Yankees‘ roster. With their assistance in the wake of Joba Chamberlain‘s injury, along with the usual dominance from Dave Robertson and Mariano Rivera, the Yankees’ bullpen is one of the best in the game and its future is in no doubt whatsoever, despite...

Derek Jeter 'Caught' Nabbing Coffee Belonging to 'Phillip' (not really)

In his time off it appears that New York Yankees superstar Derek Jeter likes to troll the local Starbucks for free coffee whenever someone doesn't answer the call when their name is announced. Don't laugh. That crap is expensive (and so damn good). You know I'm just kidding, right? Apparently Jeter thinks that if he goes into Starbucks and says his name...

New York City FC: A bold move by Manchester City and NY Yankees

New York City FC: A bold move by Manchester City and NY Yankees - originally posted on Soccerlens.comIn what has to be one of the most colossal evil empire mergers in major modern sports history, Manchester City and the New York Yankees have joined super-villainous forces to create the MLS’ 20th franchise: New York City Football Club. Okay, so that’s probably not a team name...

Caption The Photo: Derek Jeter Uses “Philip” Alias To Buy Starbucks

Will the real Philip please stand up. I’m not quite sure if Jeter thought he was actually fooling people by giving an alias or just stole some poor guy’s coffee, but photographers spotted the Yankees shortstop leaving a Greenwich Village Starbucks with a cup boldly marked for someone named Philip. Apparently, this isn’t the first time Jeter has used an alias. It was once reported...

Yankees Game 45: McLouth’s Walk-Off Sinks Yanks

Pronk stayed hot tonight, going 2-4 with 2 RBIs Baltimore Orioles 3–New York Yankees 2 (10 innings) Phil Hughes put together another solid start and Travis Hafner stayed hot, but it wasn’t enough as the O’s clipped the Bombers in extra innings. Hughes was effective over 6 innings, allowing just 5 hits and 2 runs–both solo shots by Chris Dickerson–while striking out 5, before...

Comebacks and close calls

Vernon Wells sends a pitch from Pedro Strop out to left to give the Yankees the lead. (Photo credit: CBS Sports) Whether it be an injury to a key player or a one-run deficit late in a game, these Yankees are resilient. They don’t quit or feel sorry for themselves, they don’t give-in and surrender. This team takes adversity as it comes and with a cool, calm steadfast approach...

APNewsBreak: Yankees, Man City to own NYC MLS team

The two clubs will own MLS' 20th team, which will be called New York City Football Club and plans to start play in the 2015 season. Alex Rodriguez Sales Miami Beach Mansion For $30 Million (Photos)

Yankees injured third basemen Alex Rodriguez is under the microscope right now for alleged PED usage again, and he may miss most of the season rehabbing from hip surgery, but that’s not stopping Rodriguez from cashing in. TMZ is reporting that Rodriguez just sold his Miami Beach mansion for $30 million, making a $15 million profit.  Rodriguez reported accepted a $30 million offer...

notes from Monday’s Yankees vs. Orioles (lots to say)

AL BEast Notebook – May 20 In case you missed it, on the day after the fifteenth anniversary of the ’98 Yankees/Orioles brawl, the Yankees defeated the Orioles 6-4 in ten innings in one of the more interesting games of the season. And even if you did catch it, you don’t want to miss my notes from the night. ** Pitching matchup looked like an easy pick: C.C. Sabathia versus...

Is Jose Ramirez a Starter or Reliever?

Jose Ramirez‘s live arm was on display against Kevin Gausman this past Friday. The New York Yankees’ minor-leaguer consistently unleashed 94 mph to 95 mph four-seam fastballs against the Bowie Baysox from his low three-quarter arm slot. The pitch touched 97 mph, but Ramirez’s low release point kept it on the same plane on which it was released. It did, however, feature arm...
