I never understood why Arturo Lopez lasted this long on the 40 man roster but it appears that his uneventful stay with the Mets has come to an end. The needed to make room for Rod Barajas and did so by designating Lopez for assignment.The one curious thing is that the Mets were reported to be in the process of rescinding their claim on Jay Marshall. Even if the commissioners office didn't revoke their claim, wouldn't it have made sense to DFA the player your attempting to return. Unless there's a rule that once claimed the player has to stay on the roster for a set amount of time before being waived again or their attempting to make two roster spots. With rumors circulating that the Mets are looking for a second veteran lefty, making two spots would make sense.
