Major League Baseball is headed to the Land Down Under in the 2014 season. For the first time ever, regular-season MLB games will be played in Australia when the Dodgers take on the Diamondbacks for a two-game set in Sydney March 22-23 to kick off the 2014 season. It’s not the first time that the nation’s pastime opened up outside of the U.S. borders, though. In 1999, opening games were played in Puerto Rico and Monterrey, Mexico, and in 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, things kicked off in Tokyo, Japan. MLB’s traditional Opening Day will be Monday, March 31 with 14 games already on the schedule on mlb.com The night game on Sunday, March 30 has yet to be decided, and it’s possible fans could see the Red Sox take on the Orioles at Camden Yards for the first game of the season. The All-Star Game will be held in Minneapolis, Minn. on July 15. Photo via Twitter/@UniWatch Filed under: Alison Smith, Headlines, MLB
