Derek Lowe pitched four hitless innings in relief of injured starter Nick Tepesch, A.J. Pierzynski and David Murphy each hit solo homers and the Texas Rangers beat the Seattle Mariners 5-0 Saturday night. Lowe (1-0) came out of the bullpen in the second inning after Tepesch was hit just above the right wrist by a line drive, sustaining a bruise. The 39-year-old right-hander allowed only one Seattle batter to reach when he hit Kendrys Morales with a pitch leading off the third. Tepesch left with two outs in the second inning when Jesus Montero's liner caromed off the right-hander's wrist and into shallow right field. The 24-year-old Tepesch, who appeared to be bleeding just above his wrist, began immediately shaking his arm after he was struck. He threw a couple of warm-up pitches, but the Rangers opted to bring reliever Lowe into the game. Seattle starter Brandon Maurer (1-3) gave up the homers to Pierzynski and Murphy, the only two hits the rookie allowed in 6 2-3 innin...

No Sophomore Slump for Yu Darvish

The Texas Rangers had to be a little concerned about their new ace pitcher Yu Darvish going through a sophomore slump. It may sound like a silly superstition, but it must happen-- otherwise there would not be a name for it! With four starts under his belt this season it may be a little early to call it, but I think it is safe to say that Yu is having far from a sophomore slump...

Darvish, Rangers blank Mariners

I almost didn’t write a post about tonight’s game.  My evening started when I was rear-ended leaving work.  I’m fine, but the car needs work.  Not fun.  And then I got home, hoping to settle in with a beer and baseball, but my MLB.tv kept buffering and I could not find an opener for my beer (moving problems).  After some frustration-born tears, I opened the beer with a...
