New York Yankees
Boston Red Sox
Lyle Overbay was a simple cut at the end of Red Sox’ spring training, an extra player as the team trimmed its ranks to 25 for Opening Day.
That’s how the Red Sox probably see it, at least, but for Overbay, who was scooped up by the Yankees to start at first base, it was a little more than that. Overbay, 36, is trying to prove that he still can play at a big league level, and he’s been stacking up the evidence.
Overbay is getting everyday playing time with New York, which desperately needed help after losing Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter, Curtis Granderson and Mark Teixeira to injuries. On Thursday night, Overbay singled in two runs — the deciding margin in the Yankees’ first win of the season. The victory also salvaged the final game of what could have been a series sweep.
For Overbay, it was a chance to compare the two teams he played with this spring.
“That’s more satisfying for me than anything else,” he said of getting the win, according to the New York Post. “You’re over there [w...

Derek Jeter has been an important part of the New York Yankees organization for the last 18 seasons. He could be one of those players who doesn’t know when it is time to get out. Jeter has yet to play a game in the 2013 season and it is yet to be determined when he will be able to play. Now reports coming out of New York have Yankees manager Joe Girardi saying Jeter needs a mini...
Pettitte notched the first win of the season with eight strong.
Boston Red Sox 2 — New York Yankees 4
Andy Pettitte kept the Yankees from being swept in today’s 4-2 win over the Boston Red Sox.
With two losses to start the season, the Yankees turned to Andy Pettitte to get the first win of the season. In eight innings, the 40-year-old Pettitte allowed just one run on eight...

Phil Hughes will make his first start of the season today, as the Yankees will take on the Tigers from Comerica Park in Detroit. Hughes was originally going to start for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre today, but the Yankees need arms – David Phelps will become the long-man out of the pen. Manager Joe Girardi will go with the same lineup as yesterday, except Vernon Wells will start...
Fans calling a toll-free phone number once used by the New York Yankees ticket office expecting to score some seats over their cell phones might be in for a real shock. Instead of getting Derek Jeter or CC Sabathia in a pre-recorded greeting, fans will be enticed by a woman's voice prompting them to a sex chat line.
A Google search for "Yankees box office phone number"...
Andy Pettitte pitched the Yankees to their first win of the season and Mariano Rivera made a successful return to the mound in New York's 4-2 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Thursday night.
Brett Gardner and Francisco Cervelli homered for the Yankees, providing some unexpected power to a depleted lineup missing the ''sore four'' -- Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez...

MOOSIC, Pa. – The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Rail Riders opened their new PNC Field on Thursday evening with a disappointing extra-innings, 8-4 loss to the Pawtucket Red Sox.
While the Yankees’ Triple-A affiliate may not have had the freshest of fresh starts in the books, their outlook remains just as optimistic as before the first...
Here's the bet; Will the Yankees win a game before the Marlins score a run?It is only day 3 of the 2013 season, and look what fun we are already having? Thanks, Brian, for making this year a cake walk.
The walls were starting to close in on the Yankees after the first two games of the season. An 0-3 start would not have doomed their season, but combined with all the injuries the club has sustained the feeling of a lost season in the making would only have grown stronger.
It would be easy to say that last night Andy Pettitte and Mariano Rivera turned back the clock. It would also...

The analysts, experts, baseball fans, and maybe science itself don’t think the Yankees will be good this year. With the massacre of injuries and both an April starting lineup and starting rotation, with an average age of about only 33 years old (you’d think it would be higher, I know) and a couple of old guys, one would say the 27-time-Champion...
Admit it. It may be only two games, but this Red Sox team has been fun to watch. Whether it's the lack of Bobby V running the show, or the presence of Jackie Bradley Jr., the start to the 2013 baseball season has been very entertaining. Of course, it doesn't hurt that the Red Sox have beat up on the Yankees twice already, including tonight's 7-4 win in the Bronx....
