Nineteen new players have been added to the Hall of Fame ballot for baseball. Headlining the new additions are Cy Young winning pitchers Greg Maddux and Tom Glavine and former AL MVP Frank Thomas. Maddux is as close as one could get to being a sure thing winning four consecutive NL Cy Young Awards from 1992-1995. The right hander also won 355 games, notching 3371 career strike outs. Maddux was an eight time All-Star and won 18 gold gloves at pitcher. Glavine, a two-time NL Cy Young Award winner (1991 and ’98) and 10-time All-Star, was 305-203 with a 3.54 ERA over 22 seasons combined with the Braves and New York Mets. The most prolific addition in terms of hitters to the ballot is Frank Thomas. The 1993 and 1994 AL MVP  finished his 19-year career with 2,468 hits, including 521 home runs. He drove in 1,704 runs, scored 1,494 and had more walks (1,667) than strikeouts (1,397). The full ballot is below including the number of votes from 2013 for players remaining on the ballot. Nam...

Will Greg Maddux Bust the Unanimous Barrier?

The BBWAA released the Hall of Fame ballot today and I count 6 players that you can reasonably associate with the Cubs: Rafael Palmeiro, Jacque Jones, Sammy Sosa, Lee Smith, Moises Alou and Greg Maddux. Of course, all but Sammy and maybe Lee Smith are more closesly associated with other organziations. Sammy won't be getting in and neither will Lee Smith with Maddux and Frank...

Maddux, Glavine headline stacked Hall of Fame ballot

The induction ceremony for the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y., next July 28 could have a real Atlanta Braves flavor to it. Former Braves pitchers Greg Maddux and Tom Glavine, each a 300-game winner, head a ballot stacked with superstar newcomers that will be studied by eligible members of the Baseball Writers' Association of America for the next month. The...

Four-time Cy Young Award winner Greg Maddux, two-time winner Tom Glavine and two-time AL MVP Frank Thomas are among 19 newcomers on this year's Hall of Fame ballot, joining steroid-tainted holdovers Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa. Mike Mussina, Hideo Nomo, Kenny Rogers, Jeff Kent, Moises Alou and Luis Gonzalez also are among the players eligible to be...

Our Choices If We Had A Hall Of Fame Vote

The announcement of the 2014 Hall of Fame ballot revealed a bevy of worthy candidates. The great Braves tandem of Maddux and Glavine are clearly going to sail in, but many others—in our view—also deserve induction. Without getting into the tedious arguments for and against, here are our choices for the Hall (if we actually had a vote): 1.) Greg Maddux, 2.) (Billerica's) Tom...

MLB Hall of Fame ballot announced, Maddux is the headline

The Baseball Writers Association of America has announced the 2014 Hall of Fame ballot. The most significant names are Frank Thomas, Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine, and Jeff Kent, but plenty of others will get a shot at collecting Cooperstown votes as well. Maddux and Glavine, who combined to win 660 games, seem to have the edge. Greg Maddux is making his debut on the list after...
