With one mighty swat of the bat the Boston Red Sox lowered their magic number in order to win the American League East to just seven games.
Jarrod Saltalamachhia's grand slam gave the Sox an 8-4 victory over the Yankees and their 15th win in its last 19 games.
Boston has produced a 21-win turnaround from last year’s "Blame it on Bobby V" 69-93 season. One of the Red Sox most historic teams, 1967's "Impossible Dream" team, had a 20 win turnaround from the previous year.
The Red Sox also became the first team in the Majors to hit the 90-win mark this season. After the game Saltalamachhia said, "We need 10 more for 100."
The Sox will take one step closer to that magical "100" Saturday afternoon as Jon Lester faces off against CC Sabathia.
