To borrow a phrase from one of my favorite sports movies Bull Durham, John Maine admits that he's over thinking when pitching. The result is that he's been shaky every start this spring. To his credit Maine was shut down last year and had off-season surgery so it should be expected that he's extra rusty and it's still early in camp. But I won't lie; when I was listening to the game today and Maine got rocked in the first inning I was worried about him, as Maine settled down so did my nerves. It definitely helped that the last two batters in his last two innings were strike outs. In all he allowed four runs, on five hits while not allowing a walk and striking out five in four innings.“If I miss a pitch, I’m thinking way too much about little things like my leg kick, tempo, arm slot, things like that," Maine said.
