The Yankees were in talks earlier this month with right handed reliever Manuel Corpas, who missed all of last season with Tommy John Surgery, but Corpas signed a deal with the Cubs yesterday.
The deal was a major league deal which is probably why the Yankees didn’t last him as they were likely offering a minor league deal only as is their style with relievers like this. According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, the Texas Rangers also offered him a major league contract so in the end, the Yankees probably weren’t even close.
