Manny Ramirez is a 39-year-old player with declining skills facing a 50 game suspension when/if he returns to Major League Baseball. That is not exactly what you would call a player in demand for any MLB club, but if you really break things down, Ramirez could be a perfect low risk, high reward gamble worth taking. Especially if you are a team such as the Toronto Blue jays, who have been desperately seeking more protection in its’ lineup for Jose Bautista. After constantly getting shut out in the free agent market, especially by the marquee names, Ramirez is a risk worth taking for the Jays. They need another strong bat in their lineup that could force opposing pitchers to at least consider pitching to Bautista with runners on base. And if Ramirez could even resemble a tenth of the player he once did with the Cleveland Indians, Boston Red Sox or Los Angeles Dodgers, then he could pay dividends immediately.
