The New York Yankees are hoping to get back their closer Mariano Rivera for the start of the 2013 season. The latest reports continues to be encouraging. According to MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch, Rivera is not far off from his throwing program. Mariano Rivera plans to start throwing in about a week, says his knee feels about “95 percent.” — Bryan Hoch (@BryanHoch) January 5, 2013 Rivera has been rehabbing his surgically repaired ACL, he tore the ACL in early May of last season, so it’s realistic that he’d be ready by April for Opening Day. Rivera is 43 years old, however he’s also the career saves leader and arguably the best closer of all-time. The Yankees have had an interesting off-season because of their goal to maintain payroll flexibility moving forward towards 2014. If they can start the season with Rivera firmly back in place as their closer for 2013, it will go a long way towards getting their fanbase excited again.

Are the Yankees in decline? Chris Dickerson might have something to say about that

Today, the Yankees finally put the whipping mule known as Chris Dickerson out of its misery. His only crime, as Mike A at River Ave eulogized, was to be a left-handed outfielder on a team laden - some might say top-heavy - with left-handed outfielders. He was dropped so the Yankees could sign Russ Canzler off the scrap heap. Canzler, jettisoned by the Cleveland Indians, bats right...

Yankees Pitcher Mariano Rivera Close to Full Strength

New York Yankees' closer Mariano Rivera recently told Bryan Hoch of mlb.com that his injured right knee is at "95 percent". "It's not 100 percent. It would be, I would say 95 percent.", Rivera tells Hoch. "By the time Spring Training starts, it'll feel 100 percent." Rivera suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in what many would...

Big Puma Back to the Bronx?

The New York Yankees seem to have one strategy this off season. They want to sign older players near the end of their careers to 1 year deals, and their interest in veteran Lance Berkman is the perfect example of this trend. Berkman is entering his 15th major league season and will be the ripe age of 37 at the end of 2013 campaign. The Yanks have their eye on Berkman’s bat, he’s...

Swisher is going to be tough for Yankees to replace

Under the city lights of New York, Nick Swisher's personality often shined brighter than his performance. The smiling, laughing right fielder was largely overshadowed by the bigger names in the Yankees' lineup, but this winter, the Indians gave Swisher the star treatment and wooed him to Cleveland with a four-year deal. "Where we were going to be wanted and where we...

Yankees Rumors: New York Interested in Lance Berkman

Saban uses video of Mariano Rivera to inspire 'Bama team

Mariano Rivera may pick up a save tonight without even jogging out from the bullpen if Alabama captures the BCS National Championship with a victory over Notre Dame. It wouldn't go down in the record books as career save No. 609, but could play a small part in the history of Alabama football, nonetheless. Alabama head coach Nick Saban said he had his players watch a video of...
