Mariano Rivera‘s farewell tour will officially conclude Thursday night in Boston, when he will be honored once again at Fenway Park. Bud Selig will present the future Hall of Famer with the Commissioner’s Historic Achievement Award during a press conference prior to Game 2 of the World Series, and Rivera will be recognized on the field as part of the pregame ceremonies, the commissioner’s office announced Wednesday. Rivera is the first to receive the award, created to “recognize contributions of historical significance in Major League Baseball,” since Ken Griffey Jr. in 2011. Other past recipients include Cal Ripken Jr., Barry Bonds, Tony Gwynn and Roberto Clemente. MLB’s all-time saves leader, Rivera retired last month after 19 seasons with the Yankees. He appeared in 1,115 games in his career, finishing with a 2.21 ERA and 652 career saves. Filed under: Headlines, MLB, NESN Staff, New York Yankees, World Series
