Seattle Mariners young guns prove the future is brighter than it seems

Glass half full Let’s not sugar coat this: The Seattle Mariners have not had a good season. The veteran presences haven’t lifted the team the way you’d like them to, and Jonah Keri of Grantland recently stated that the team is ‘years away’ from contention. It’s true that this group is a ways away with its current roster, but that’s the nice thing about sports—rosters...

Seattle Mariners: Mid-season report card

Simply put, 2013 has not gone as well as the Seattle Mariners would’ve hoped.  The progression seemed in place for this team to be a little over or at .500.  However, at the mid-season point, the Mariners are on track to finish 70-92, five games below last season’s 75 win total.  The youth movement hasn’t panned out for Seattle leading to another season of sluggish offensive...

Hope yet for Smoak and Hosmer

Prospects will rip your guts out. For every Trout and Harper, there are disappointments. There have been no bigger disappointments in the last year than Justin Smoak and Eric Hosmer. Both seemed to symbolize their respective team's failures. Both play first base, a position that requires offense. Neither provided any in 2012. Smoak's failures go back further than Hosmer...
