by Josh AlperFiled under: Mariners, AL WestWhen Albert Belle threw a ball at a person in the stands, he earned a page in a lengthy resume that overshadowed his on-field accomplishments. When Jason Phillips threw a ball at a person in the stands, he got a wife.
The Marlins bullpen catcher noticed an attractive woman in the stands during an extra inning game against the A's last May and decided to take a chance on romance. He flipped her a ball with her number on it and when the game concluded after 15 innings Phillips found a text message with her name and number on it. Fast forward to Sunday when Phillips and Molly Ray will become man and wife.
Jerry Brewer of the Seattle Times brings us the final, winning detail in this unlikely romantic tale. Phillips and Rae will tie the knot in the Mariners bullpen shortly after their game against the Reds comes to a conclusion. Presumably everyone's fingers are crossed that they won't play 15 innings this time around. Permalink...
